Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. Türker Karabuğa stated that vitamin D is an important vitamin for metabolism and healthy weight loss and said that vitamin D optimizes metabolism through healthy thyroid function and helps reduce insulin resistance. Op. Dr. Türker Karabuğa noted that vitamin D and vitamin K2 must be used under the control of a doctor.
Supports Metabolism
Stating that the common feature shared by most obese or overweight people is vitamin D deficiency, Op. Dr. Türker Karabuğa said, “Vitamin D directly supports thyroid function, metabolism and insulin resistance. In addition to weight loss and weight management, vitamin D is also very important for general health. Vitamin D is essential for the transport of calcium from our bloodstream to our bones. Our bodies need adequate levels of vitamin D for strong, healthy bones. It is also vital for immune function and helps our bodies fight viruses, bacteria and cancer cells, which is especially important during these seasonal transitions when flu epidemics peak. Vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of some types of cancer such as colorectal, breast, prostate and pancreatic cancer.”
Meat, Cheese and Eggs
Stating that vitamin K is actually a group of compounds, Op. Dr. Karabuğa said, “The most important of these compounds are vitamin K1 and vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is obtained from green leafy vegetables and some other vegetables. Vitamin K2 is a group of compounds largely obtained from meat, cheese and eggs and synthesized by bacteria. Although the daily vitamin K requirement varies from person to person depending on age, gender and pregnancy, it is generally recommended to use 100-200 mcg of K2. Current research shows an important relationship between vitamin K2 and vitamin D3. Taking vitamin D3 together with vitamin K2 allows the calcium carried by vitamin D to be deposited where it is needed, rather than in deposits in your arteries.
