Hello there. I am Operator Doctor Türker Karabuğa. I have been performing obesity and diabetes surgery for about fifteen years. Today I will tell you about stomach botox, a non-surgical method. Who is it applied to? How is it done? What is the length of hospital stay? How effective is it? As a matter of fact, the application we call gastric botox is the same drug used to remove wrinkles, which we call botulinum toxin, which is used more frequently in aesthetic surgery. By administering this drug to the stomach wall endoscopically, the work of the muscles in the stomach is slowed down.  After the patient is prepared under anaesthesia, the stomach is checked by endoscopy. After this control, if there is no ulcer or serious gastritis, the application is started. With a special small and short needle, it is applied to the stomach wall, especially to the antrum and the part where the appetite hormone is secreted, which we call the fundus, to approximately forty points in total, and the work of the muscles in this region is slowed down. Due to the slowing down of the muscles in the fundus region, that is, the region where the appetite hormone is secreted, the secretion of appetite hormone here is significantly reduced. With the slowing down of the muscles in the region where the stomach pushes the food forwards, which we call anthrome, the food stays in the stomach for a much longer time and the compliance with the diet to be made is increased. In this way, the patient starts to lose weight by seriously adapting to the diet given due to both loss of appetite and prolonged retention of food. The duration of action of this drug is approximately 4 - 6 months. If we realise that we cannot achieve the desired effect within this period, a 2nd application and a 3rd application after a 2nd application can also be made. In this way, our patients can achieve maximum weight loss by going to dietitian control at certain intervals. This application cannot be performed for every patient. Obesity also has indication groups. If Vki is over 40 and 50, botox application is meaningless. Botox can be administered to a group of patients with a BMI between 25-30 and 30-35 who do not consider surgery or who are not suitable. Botox is beneficial in this group. For this reason, patient selection should be done very well. It is necessary to apply the drug to the right places and strict follow-up with a dietician is necessary. These are the factors that increase success.
