Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Türker Karabuğa MD shared with his patients the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer and what needs to be done. The patients who came to Private Çankaya Medical Center and Private Karataş Hospital were given a pink ribbon, the symbol of breast cancer, and the importance of early diagnosis in treatment was explained.

Kiss. Dr. Türker Karabuğa listed the things to be done for early diagnosis in breast cancer and gave the following information to the patients: “The screening methods that should be done in Early Diagnosis are divided into three. Firstly, breast self-examination (regularly every month after the age of 18). Physician examination between the ages of 18-40 and finally mammography examination every year after the age of 40. The risk of breast cancer increases with age. The significant age limit for regular physician check-ups is between the ages of 40-50. For this reason, breast examination, mammography and ultrasonography are recommended every year after the age of 40. Every woman should have a monthly breast self-exam starting at the age of 18. It is important for early diagnosis to be examined by a physician once a year from the age of 40. Breast cancer is the most common female cancer in both developed and developing countries. Breast cancer, which is the most common cancer in women in our country, is one of the leading causes of death from cancer in women. Being a woman is the most important risk factor for getting breast cancer. However, having a family history of breast cancer, not giving birth to a child or giving birth at the age of 30, early menstruation, late menstruation, unconscious use of birth control pills and prolonged postmenstrual hormone therapy are among the risk factors. Unfortunately, women often think that if there is no risk factor, they will not get breast cancer. However, 80 percent of breast cancer patients do not have any of these risk factors. For this reason, it is important for women who have no complaints to have routine breast check-ups.”
